Choosing a backsplash for your kitchen is a very big decision. With the amount of time you spend in the kitchen, you want to make sure the backsplash tile is one you will love for years to come! I spent so many hours scrolling Pinterest and saving favorites. My head was spinning with all the options! I changed my mind countless times, but finally found one that both my husband and I loved! Here’s our experience with finding the perfect kitchen backsplash!

Kitchen Backsplash Tile we chose
Choosing a kitchen backsplash tile is just as hard as choosing the right white paint color. Check out my blog post on choosing a white paint color here. There are so many options out there! Firstly, I wanted a backsplash tile that wasn’t trendy because I wanted it to be classic and timeless. Something that provides texture, while still maintaining a casual vibe. As soon as I saw this weathered white handcrafted terracotta tile from Cletile, I knew it was the one! The tile is a beautiful mix of colors including hints of grey, cream, pink, celadon, and even blues. Different lighting highlights just how beautiful the tile is! The opalescent shiny finish adds just a hint of sophistication to our laid-back vibe.

Grout
We used bright white grout because it highlights the color of this kitchen backsplash tile, but this tile also looks gorgeous stacked without grout. In Morocco, the installations are done with a butt joint and no grout and have withstood the test of time.

Transition
On the side walls of the kitchen, I chose to only have the tile go up a few rows. This tile is thicker than the average subway tile, so visually it looked better to have a few rows transition into our shiplap. Both were equal in thickness, which provides a more seamless look.

kitchen backsplash Tile details
There is just so much character to this neutral backsplash tile from Cletile. A true authentic Moroccan zellige has many imperfections. These beautiful flaws are what makes this tile stand out because no two tiles will ever be alike! This allows the beautiful and flowing texture to shine.
Things to keep in mind…
✔️This tile is thicker than your average tile, so make note of that when planning. Typical tile is 2” x 6” x 3/4”
✔️If flaws and color variations are not your thing, you may not like this. These flaws definitely make this tile shine, but I know there are many who prefer a clean perfect look.
✔️It also breaks easily during shipping, so make sure to order a little extra! If you have to reorder, there will be degrees of variation in color, shade, size, and texture across production, meaning your add-on order may not be a perfect match.
