Spring is almost here and that means it’s time to start thinking about patio season! Creating an outdoor space can be a fun and rewarding experience. It’s a great way to extend your living area and make the most of the beautiful weather. I adore spending time outdoors, so every year I find new ways to make the most of my patio! Here are my 5 tips for how to transform your outdoor space into an outdoor oasis you never want to leave!
1. Choose durable and comfortable outdoor furniture
When it comes to outdoor furniture, durability and comfort are key. Look for furniture pieces that are made from weather-resistant materials such as teak or aluminum, and consider investing in high-quality outdoor cushions and pillows for added comfort.
One of my favorite outdoor furniture brands is Outer. Outer products combine innovation and design impeccably. Their furniture is made to last and can withstand all the elements. Secondly, they include built-in, easy to use OuterShell® cover which protect the cushions when not in use. It features Velcro that secures it in place and a handle for convenient carrying and storage. These come in so handy when inclement weather rolls in. Life can get messy, especially with kids and dogs! So having a durable cushion cover is a must! Outer cushions are made from comfiest memory foam and are covered with a machine washable cover that is made from solution-dyed yarn making it highly resistant to fading. Finally, they are finished off with a nano-coating that protects from stains, inclement weather, and all of lifes messes! This includes wine spills and muddy paws!
Whether you’re relaxing with a good book or doing some holiday entertaining, the key to creating a magical outdoor space is high-quality furniture! Head over to Outer to check out their amazing selection. Use my code “MMURPHY” for an extra 5% off regular and sale prices!

2. Add Color and TExture with outdoor rugs
An outdoor rug is a simple and effective way to add color and texture to your patio space. Look for rugs that are made from materials such as polypropylene or sisal, which can withstand exposure to the elements. Choose a pattern and color that complements your existing patio decor, or opt for a bold statement piece to add interest to a neutral space. I love neutral rugs with texture. My eco-friendly rug from Outer is the most beautiful neutral rug. It is so soft underfoot and won’t fade in sunlight and is remarkably easy to clean! I power wash it once a year and it looks brand new! The neutral beige color and timeless herringbone pattern fit any decor style while beautifully hiding dirt and dust. Whatever your preference is, an outdoor rug grounds your space and is one of the best ways to create a cozy and inviting space.
3. Incorporate lighting for ambiance
Firstly, outdoor lighting is not only functional, but it can also create a warm and inviting ambiance. Consider installing overhead lighting, such as string lights or pendant lamps, to illuminate your patio space. If you have a covered patio, recessed lighting will do the trick. Create a warm gathering spot on those cool nights by using fire pits, propane heaters, and accents like lanterns and candles.
4. Add natural Elements for a Tranquil Atmosphere
Adding natural touches such as a small fountain, plants, trees, and flowers can create a tranquil and serene atmosphere in your outdoor space. Choose plants that are suitable for the amount of sunlight and exposure to the elements in your area. Some of my favorite container flowers are geraniums. Costco always has the best selection in late spring! If you want to try a faux option, these are one of my favorite white and red faux geraniums.

5. Personalize your space with decorative accents
What’s an outdoor patio without your own personal decor touches? This can be anything from throw pillows and blankets to the vases that hold your favorite flowers! Your patio is an extension of your home, so bring the items you love inside, outdoors!

In conclusion, it can be easy to create that outdoor haven that you never want to leave! Bring the indoors out and consider your patio an outdoor room. Include comfortable and durable furniture, ground the space with a rug, create ambiance with lighting and add decorative accents to pull it all together!
