This simple recipe is so easy to make and tastes so good! It’s a recipe I grew up having and continue to make for my boys. Made with just a few simple ingredients, this Irish Soda bread is quick and oh so tasty.

Baking is always more fun when you have cute bakeware and kitchen utensils! I’m obsessed with the MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check collection! The iconic pattern was inspired by the floors of Westminster Abbey and it has a unique and unforgettable, passed down through generations, design! Its versatile style looks good in every home!

Today I baked up a loaf of my grandma Griffins Irish Soda Bread using a few of my favorite pieces from the MacKenzie-Childs Collection. These pieces have that handed down through the generations look. So fitting considering this recipe has been handed down through generations in our family! This Irish Soda Bread is the best and it couldn’t be easier to make and tastes so good! I sometimes refer to it as biscuit bread because it has a similar taste. The bread pairs well with soups, pot roasts, and corned beef.
GRANDMA GRIFFINS IRISH SODA BREAD
Here is the recipe if you want to try!
2 cups sifted flour
1/3 cup butter
3/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 cup golden or regular raisins
1/4 cup dried cranberries
3/4 cup buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 375 and then rinse the raisins and cranberries in hot water, drain well.

Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar.

Cut butter into flour mixture until its pea sized. Stir in the raisins and cranberries.

Add in buttermilk and stir just until dry ingredients are moistened(don’t over mix). Don’t have buttermilk? You can make your own by mixing 1 tablespoon white vinegar + enough milk to measure 1 cup. Make sure not to over mix, the dough should be sticky.

Place in a greased baking pan, pat or roll dough gently to shape.

Bake at 375 for 28-30 min, more bake time may be required depending on your oven and pan used! Just don’t overcook or it will be really dry. Irish Soda bread is great by itself or with a little Irish butter! Have leftovers? It’s great with coffee the next morning too!
